Licenses
We
are licensed by the State of Colorado Division of Wildlife as
well as the federal agency U.S. Department of Agriculture/Aphis
animal care and welfare. Both of these licenses require an annual
fee and renewal application process. We are the only facility
in the entire state (including government funded zoological parks!)
to have qualified for, and be granted, a state of Colorado Zoological
License.
In
fact, our facility is licensed and bound by the exact laws and
regulating authorities that allow every "zoo" in the
county to operate. Inspections are conducted by each agency on
a "spot check" system. No inspection is ever announced
or pre-arranged. It is a crime to refuse to allow an inspector
on the premises, punishable by fines and/or jail time. We are
regulated on every aspect of animal care and husbandry from diet/nutrition,
veterinary care, enrichment, enclosure specifications, and safety
for both the animals and the public.
