Hello!
Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Dr. Mel, the facility veterinarian and have had the pleasure of working with the Big Cats of Serenity Springs since 1997.

I feel the level of veterinary care that we offer the cats here is excellent; however, for a long time, we were limited to what are several cats that have come to join us after badly performed declaw surgeries with nails now re-growing or infected toes. Not to mention cats with dental disease and/or broken teeth. It has been very frustrating to not be able take care of these things. NO LONGER AM I FRUSTERATED!!

With the new clinic I can anesthetize these cats and more importantly KEEP them anesthetized with monitoring, in order to take the necessary x-rays, perform sterile surgery, clean their teeth and if needed have the dentist perform root canal therapy or cap broken teeth. I also will be able to perform more of our blood work, urinalysis and cytology in the clinic. When the hospitalization cage is complete I will be able to closely monitor, administer IV fluids & other medications on a round the clock basis with ill animals. I am also thrilled to have a central location for all of our sedation logs and medical records.

My long-term dream is that we can share our information and cooperate with conservationists and researchers to help further our knowledge of these species both in captivity and in the wild.

If we can contribute a tidbit of information to help eradicate Canine Distemper in the wild lions of Africa, or to unravel some of the genetic mysteries of these cats I would be one very happy person.

In my opinion, with the new veterinary center we will be providing the highest level of veterinary care, making us not only the best in the state, but one of the best private centers in the country. Make sure when you come to visit you see the clinic!! And feel free to contact us for more information on the veterinary challenges of this type of work or about the facility in general.

Cordially
Dr. Mel

we could do on site, we were limited to field anesthesia which only allowed us to do brief procedures like a physical exam, draw blood or neutering. There
